Women Empowerment

"The seeds of success in every nation on earth are best planted on women and children."

- Joyce Banda

SCODWES advocates that women empowerment is fundamental to achieving gender equality in society. Empowerment enables women to make choices, access opportunities, and gain control over their lives. It encompasses a range of areas, including social, economic, political, and personal empowerment. Empowering women is crucial not only for their own development but also for the advancement of families, communities, and society as a whole.

Self-Help Groups

With the core objective of organizing and providing financial and non-financial assistance to women communities, we promote and develop Self-Help Groups (SHGs) through the project named Utkarsha. Currently, 24,623 women are organized into 2,015 SHGs. Financial assistance has been provided to these SHGs through various banking institutions, and they have also been connected with various departments, agencies, and mainstream institutions to help them access entitlements and non-financial benefits. The current status indicates that these SHGs have availed financial services totalling ₹120 cr.

Skill and Capacity Building

Through our grassroots work, we have come to understand that women in the community harbour significant aspirations for social and economic development. However, there exists a gap in the skills and capacity needed to achieve these aspirations. To address this gap, we are organizing various skill-building and capacity development events in collaboration with different organizations. To date, we have conducted training sessions on topics such as Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP), establishing home industries, catering services, beautician courses, General Duty Assistance course, tailoring…etc. Through these programs we have reached 36,750 women members across the working areas.

Santwana and Shakti Sadan Initiatives

To address violence and atrocities faced by women, we run the Santwana program in Dandeli block, which provides legal assistance, temporary shelter, training, and rehabilitation to victims of dowry harassment, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. To date, this program has benefited 543 women by giving them a safe space and the support they need to rebuild their lives. In addition, we are implementing the Shakti Sadan program to support distressed women and children in the district. This initiative offers not only shelter but also livelihood opportunities, benefiting 235 women and children by helping them transition towards self-reliance and stability.
