Since 2008, SCODWES has been operating 48 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) across 24 districts, providing crucial healthcare services to the public. These units have treated a total of 21,10,026 cases, and currently, 24 MMUs are active on the road to continue serving communities. Additionally, we have established and are operating Primary Healthcare Centers in Diggi and Castlerock of Joida taluk, where 31,062 patients have received treatment. Additionally, in collaboration with NPCIL Kaiga, we are operating a Primary Healthcare Center in Mallapur, Karwar, where we've treated 186,278 cases. In association with the BIOCON Foundation, we are operating the e-LAJ smart clinic in Mainalli, Mundgod. This clinic serves as an early diagnostic center for the local population, particularly focusing on tribal communities residing in the area. Through collaboration with the Indian Cancer Society, SCODWES has conducted 7 awareness camps in Sirsi, benefiting 28,500 individuals. With the generous support of DNA Bengaluru and Omega Rehabilitation Trust Bengaluru, we have distributed artificial limbs and arms to specially challenged individuals, enhancing their quality of life and mobility. The total number of cases treated through our health services is 2,355,866.
As the District Nodal NGO for Emergency Response, SCODWES consistently stands at the forefront, offering vital assistance in any emergency situation that arises within our district. And also extended support to Kodagu flood victims by providing essential food and clothing supplies in the year 2018.
SCODWES Supported 445 children from very poor & marginal families, by providing comprehensive educational assistance covering their needs for the entire academic year. Additionally, SCODWES has undertaken ASER survey, a national-level program, focusing on 30 remote villages within the district. 600 children were surveyed with the support of the Pratham Foundation, New Delhi.
SCODWES is actively promoting 60 FPOs across Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Shivamogga, Gadag, and Udupi districts; by this initiative 45,000+ farmers are benefited. Additionally, through the Su-krishi project, the organization promoted sustainable agriculture across five clusters in uttara kannada district, 5000 farmers are benefited. Since 2008, over 2 lakh farmers have been covered under various Agriculture and Natural Resource Management projects, enhancing agricultural practices and livelihoods. Additionally, SCODWES has implemented sustainable agriculture initiatives under the Organic Village project. More than 1850 farmers adopted Organic farming practices in Karwar and Bhatkal taluk.
With the support of the Azim Premji Foundation, SCODWES is facilitating livelihood activities for tribes and indigenous communities in 5 Gram Panchayats of the Yellapur block in Uttara Kannada district. With the generous support from the Rotary Club Bengaluru and Selco Solar, 150 tribal families have received solar lamp systems, improving their infrastructure and providing reliable lighting. Furthermore, SCODWES has provided essential educational aids to 758 students from tribal and indigenous communities. The organization conducted research on Kumbri Marathi Integrated Development, leading to its inclusion in the "Tribes of Karnataka – A Pictorial Encyclopedia" by the Government of Karnataka. This recognition offers an opportunity to influence policy matters positively. Additionally, SCODWES has created a platform for research aspirants to gain exposure to the indigenous tribal communities of Uttara Kannada through workshops in association with the Department of Tribal Studies, Kannada University, Hampi. These initiatives aim to uplift and empower tribal and indigenous communities while fostering education, sustainability, and cultural preservation.
Under the project UTKARSHA, SCODWES collaborated with, NABARD, ICICI Bank, SCODWES Mahila Souhardha, Sirsi & SUCO Bank and created 2,015 SHGs and Provided loans/ micro-credits of 99.37 crore for enabling them in solving their own financial problems by growing economically and also provided trainings on income generating activities. Additionally, in Association with Desai foundation, we have conducted awareness programs on Menstrual Health and hygiene in Haveri and Uttara Kannada district and 79, 536 women's and adolescent girls are benefited. Through Help-Desk programs we have spread knowledge on various government schemes. Along with that we have also distributed asani Sanatory napkins to 10,100+ women's, under this totally 177,924 Women's benefited. Also we are running Santwana program in Dandeli for providing legal assistance with temporary shelter, training and rehabilitation to women who are victims of various atrocities, such as dowry, sexual harassment, domestic violence etc. This program has benefited 511 women. Furthermore, to support distressed women in the district, SCODWES has implemented the Swadhar Greh program, providing support and livelihood opportunities. Currently, 235 women and children have been supported through this initiative.
Under the HSBC-Skills for life initiative, SCODWES conducted residential skill upgradation training for youth. A total of 749 candidates were trained under BFSI, Health, Beauty, and Wellness. Impressively, 86% of the trainees were successfully placed and employed. In collaboration with the Functional Vocational Training and Research Society (FVTRS), SCODWES implemented the Skill-Net Karnataka program in Sirsi and Siddapur taluks of Uttara Kannada district. Through this initiative, 514 unemployed youths were upskilled and empowered, enhancing their employability prospects. Additionally, with the support of the Desai Foundation, sewing and beautician training programs were conducted in Mundgod, Yellapur, and Sirsi Taluks. 1473+ women’s are benefited from this project.
In the Jal Jeevan Mission, SCODWES has made significant strides, covering 1280 villages in Uttara Kannada and 246 villages in Udupi district, thereby providing clean water access to 2,67,812 households and 1,80,245 households respectively. The organization conducted over 351+ IEC programs to educate communities on the importance of clean water and proper hygiene practices. Furthermore, through the KUIDFC – KUIWMIP initiative, SCODWES has constructed 4136 sanitation units in Davanagere District. This effort ensures that 97,589 families have access to 24x7 water supply and sanitation facilities through Output Based Aid (ABD), significantly improving living conditions and promoting public health in the region.
Since 2009, SCODWES has been conducting capacity development trainings for members of Village Forest Committees (VFCs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) regarding biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest management. A total of 261 VFCs and SHGs of Sirsi, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Ankola, Siddapur and Karwar forest division have been trained.
In the Resettlement & Rehabilitation of project-affected families, a total of 980.62 kms have been covered, benefiting 2842 affected families. Additionally, Conducted IGA training to 655 Project affected persons under Resettlement & Rehabilitation program under KSHIP II, KSHIP III & Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL). To ensure the quality and sustainable management of fish and marine products, SCODWES has conducted 2865 training sessions in the coastal belt of Karnataka and 1200 trainings in Goa on fish quality management, conservation & sustainable fishing since 2009 with support from Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), focus on fish quality management, conservation and sustainable fishing practices.
SCODWES has expanded its efforts to support endosulfan victims by operating 4 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) initially, which has now been upgraded to 6 MMUs. These units are dedicated to providing regular health services to those affected by endosulfan exposure. Additionally, with the support of Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives, we have supplied 2171 dry ration kits during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that families in need receive essential sustenance during challenging times. Additionally, our Bike Medical unit service treated 702 patients at their doorstep, ensuring timely and accessible healthcare during the pandemic. For the past five years, SCODWES has been offering doorstep health services to 1730 endosulfan pesticide affected victims with multiple disorders, along with their family members.
In collaboration with the Britannia Nutrition Foundation, SCODWES has spearheaded an Anemia reduction program for adolescent children in Mundgod and Haliyal taluks of Uttara Kannada district. This comprehensive initiative includes the effective implementation of WIFS, Awareness for students and care givers for anemia reduction and to support the nutrition among children we have also established Nutrition Gardens in 15 schools, ensuring a sustainable supply of fresh, nutrient-rich produce for midday meals. Additionally, we've conducted various activities such as Wash programs, distribution of iron-fortified biscuits, testing and treatment for Anemia. Through these efforts, a total of 7000 adolescent children have benefited, promoting their overall health and well-being.
Through the execution of watershed development programs including WDDP, IWMP, PMKSY, PKVY, and Sujala-RIDF, we have conducted awareness creation activities such as Jathas, street plays, Gram Sabha sessions, PRA exercises, wall paintings, EAP trainings, SEDP initiatives, and promotions for animal husbandry. Successfully, we have covered a total of 19,090 hectares of land, benefiting over 300,000 individuals.
